1.2.14. Week 14 - 11/18ΒΆ

Agenda for this week:

We cover the last chapter of the semester this week. Numerical methods provide computational tools for solving problems that one might use analytic techniques to solve. However, in some cases it is not practical or even possible to find an analytic solution, so we turn to numeric methods. This is a fun topic that I wish we had more time to discuss. However, the semester is coming to a close, so this is a quick introduction. Previously, I did not have a lot of details in the study guide about this topic, and what was there mostly talked about the tools that are part of MATLAB. When I turned my notes into a book, the publisher wanted me to expand this chapter to include more technical details about numerical algorithms. Thus, the study guide now has quite a bit more material than previously. The attendance quizzes and final exam only cover the basic concepts, which are presented in the video lectures. I think that you will find the new material in the study guide interesting, so please look at it and read what you find interesting.
