Applications of Robotics ================================ * `Why do we need Robots? `_ * `Robots -- The Journey Continues `_: This 10-minute video from the *Springer Handbook of Robotics* shows a compilation of robots performing a variety of tasks. * **Transporting heavy things:** A good example of this is the `LS3 robot mule `_ that the military is developing. * **Humanoid robots** In the `introductory lecture `_ of the *Introduction to Robotics* MOOC from Stanford, at about 7:30, is an overview of a number of interesting robotic features, especially Humanoid robots. Humanoid robots attempt to behave, and sometime appear, like a human. Because so much of our world is made for humans, robots often need to have similar capabilities as human even when appearing like a human is not required. An example of this can be seen in the video that we will look at in class showing a recent *DARPA Challenge* competition where robots attempt various tasks useful for rescue efforts similar to what a fireman might perform. * Fully **automated manufacturing** plants, such as this `Auto factory `_. * **Unmanned aircraft**, such as this `automous plane `_, or this `helicopter `_, which uses an sbRIO processor like our DaNI robots. Here is a `sbRIO based quadcopter `_, with more explanations of how it was build and programmed using LabVIEW.
